BOARD-SAVVY SUPERINTENDENT
The board of education’s evaluation of the superintendent can be affirming, frightening or an opportunity for continued growth. Often the focus is on the accomplishment of goals based on technical and leadership skills, but sometimes that focus can be on interpersonal or “soft skills” that the board would like the superintendent to address.
I observed how the superintendent of a Chicago-area suburban school district took the school board’s advice as a positive opportunity for professional and personal growth.
