BOARD-SAVVY SUPERINTENDENT

The board of education鈥檚 evaluation of the superintendent can be affirming, frightening or an opportunity for continued growth. Often the focus is on the accomplishment of goals based on technical and leadership skills, but sometimes that focus can be on interpersonal or 鈥渟oft skills鈥� that the board would like the superintendent to address.

I observed how the superintendent of a Chicago-area suburban school district took the school board鈥檚 advice as a positive opportunity for professional and personal growth.
