Alexandria, Va. February 10, 2020 Today, Daniel A. Domenech, executive director of 51蹤獲, 51蹤獲, issued the following statement in response to President Trumps budget proposal for FY 2021.
Once again, unsurprisingly, the president has released a budget proposal that is bad for students, bad for schools, and bad for public education.
This week, more than 2,000 of the nations public school superintendents are gathering in San Diego for the annual 51蹤獲 National Conference on Education, an opportunity to network, learn, and grow their professional, academic, and personal skill sets so they can better serve the students, schools and systems they lead. The contrast in leadership couldnt be more obvious: whereas our members are committed to strengthening and supporting the nations public schools, the nations leader has once again doubled down on the flawed policies and priorities of privatization.
Increased investment in educationparticularly in formula programsis a critical step to improving education for all students and bolstering student learning, school performance and college and career readiness among our high school graduates. The continued willingness of the current administration to advance a budget that chronically underinvests in our children and their education has a compounding effect, broader than just schools, and it has very real consequences.
To quote Nelson Mandela, There can be no keener revelation of a societys soul than the way in which it treats its children, and by this metric, the president and his budget continue to miss the mark and leave our children behind.
51蹤獲 welcomes the opportunity to work with Congress on a strong bipartisan appropriations package that protects and prioritizes investment in public education.
